Mature cheddar and spring onion – Sainsbury’s Taste the Difference

Sainsbury's Cheddar & Spring Onion Crisps, Taste the Difference 150g | Sainsbury's

Apparently Cheese and Onion are the nations favourite crisp flavour. I’m not sure how this was unearthed, whether a verified survey has been carried out by Ipsos Mori or even if this reflects mine and Mr Crisps own extensive crisp research. However, if it is the case, I don’t want to enforce my favourite cheese and onion crisp variety on anyone, I could be riling up the entire nation. So please, take this with a pinch of spring onion flavouring and see this more as an opportunity to expand your cheesey crisp repertoire rather than an a-front to your favourite dairy and root veg flavoured snack.

Discovering these beauties as a hungover student in a Sainsbury’s local, it’s no surprise that I went for a supermarket own brand flavour. Sainsbury’s Taste the Difference Mature Cheddar and Spring Onion however, is anything but budget.

The magical makers of these delights should be held up in Sainsbury’s history books, as true crisps masters. Firstly, the ability to capture not just a distinct cheddar flavour, but to really show off the maturity of the cheese is unparalleled in the flooded cheese and onion market. They amplify the staple of the cheddar to the heady heights it deserves as the most reliable of the cheeses. From the hearty flavour of the mature cheddar, reinforced through the consistent aroma, you then get the sweet compliment of the spring onion. Scattered throughout the crisps, adorning each of the yellow shells, the spring onion flavouring enhances the crisps, ensuring every corner of your mouth is filled with the fragrant flavour it deserves.

If these weren’t already tickling your taste buds, Sainos have ensured fulfilment 100% of the time on purchasing these, as you can only get them in ‘sharing’ size 150g packets, which serves 2 during an average crisping session or serves 1 on a hungover feasting session.

Dipability – surprisingly these paired very nicely with an original hummus. The substantial frame of the crisp matches up against the thickness of the hummus and the strength of both components makes this a rich, if unconventional, pairing

Potatometer – If I was scoring these without Mr Crisp, they’d be in the god-tier, however for the sake of our Crispy union, they are a solid, unwavering 4.
